Walter grew up in a small town in Illinois being the middle child of Taiwanese immigrant parents. He had a non-religious upbringing, with academics/science being emphasized. Walter was admitted to the charter class of the 7-year B.A./M.D. medical program at George Washington (GW) University in Washington DC. It was at GW as a philosophy major that he was saved by the Lord. Since then, he has been blessed by a number of Bibilically solid faith communities including the church in Cleveland where he did his otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency. It was in Cleveland that he met Julia, and they were married in 2002. In 2008, Walter was recruited to Duke University Medical Center and he and his wife have been members of FBC since 2009. He has previously served as a FBC deacon with heart for missions and evangelism.
